"For my contribution to Dutch Souvenirs I asked myself: What would I take with me when I never could return home again? Without any hesitation I choose the potato: both the focus and symbol of my youth on a Brabantic far. In the line of my work and actual project "XENIA" - of which this image is a part - I want to console today, past and future in ceramic object. The result is Joekel, the biggest tuber that I was able to find in my landscape. I show the thing in its mighty wholeness and in the shape that my father's peeling left of it. By the glaze the telluric actual fossil changes in a cosmic projectile. Memory as meteorite finds its way and travels to the end of times."
