"Round, oval and rectangular tablecentres made of lace in all kind sizes are doing very well in Dutch souvenir shops.
When they are bought it is because they are admired for their aesthetic or craft quality. People bring them to their houses all around the world or give them as a present to those who stayed home. The irony of it is that especially the smaller tablecentres mostly end up as a place-mat for something else. All, or the main part of the visual quality gets hidden by something that might be something totally other than a Dutch souvenir. My intention was to change this fate. By looking at it from an other perspective, the fragile visual quality of lace as an in between object now became an integrated part of an other fragility, that of an porcelain object that can stand on its own and still expresses the fineness of the original lace. This way the lace is served on a platter, as it deserves."
