"Often a souvenir is materialized nostalgia, an object representing a memento, a reminder, a memory, a recollection of other times and other places. Adventures, stories and thoughts concentrated in a 'conversation piece'. A typical form and material which triggers memories. For the project 'Dutch Souvenirs', initiated by Matthias Keller from the European Ceramic Workcentre, the artists-duo Vroegop/Schoonveld decided to make an exact copy, a duplicate in ceramics of the leather wallet from their grandfather who used this purse throughout the 20-th century. The ceramic wallet can be used as a money box. An object of desire. For centuries The Netherlands has been a centre of commerce, a trading nation, knowing very well how to spent, invest and save money. The Dutch know how to hold the purse. This purse can be considered a symbol of the centre of individual trade ( the individual's desire ) , referring to the Dutch trading spirit. Obtaining 'the ceramic wallet money box' not only means saving memories but also offers the possibility of saving money, becoming thrifty like the Dutch. In economical insecure times it is wise to lay by a little money. Buy to save."
